November 5, 2024 Update: Tropical Storm Rafael Approaches with Potential for Strengthening

Tropical Storm Rafael is gaining strength as it moves northwest, potentially impacting areas in the Gulf later this week. Residents in these regions should stay alert and take precautionary steps now, even as current projections show a path into the Gulf.

Current Storm Status and Path

Rafael has become more organized with increasing wind speeds, currently near 50 knots (around 58 mph). The storm is expected to cross western Cuba and head into the Gulf of Mexico in the next two days. Forecast models differ on its later trajectory, with some indicating a turn into the western Gulf and others suggesting a potential northward turn.

Conditions for Intensification

With warm waters, low wind shear, and high humidity, Rafael may intensify quickly in the next 24 hours, though conditions may limit this once it enters the Gulf.

What to Expect and How to Prepare

Cayman Islands and Western Cuba: Near-hurricane conditions tonight and Wednesday, with strong winds and storm surge.
Jamaica: Tropical storm conditions are expected today.
Florida Keys: Tropical storm conditions could begin late Wednesday.
Northern Gulf Coast: Impacts are uncertain but remain possible.
Rainfall and Flooding: Heavy rains through Thursday may bring flash flooding, particularly in Jamaica, Cuba, and later parts of Florida and the Southeast U.S.

GlobalPro’s 3 D’s of Damage – Steps to Take After the Storm: After Hurricane Milton passes, it is crucial to take the right actions to protect your property and maximize your recovery from any damages sustained. At GlobalPro, we recommend following our “3 D’s of Damage” process to effectively manage risk and recovery:

  1. Document: Thoroughly document all dpamage by taking extensive photos and videos, both inside and outside your property. Capture every detail, no matter how minor, as this will be essential for your insurance claim. Maintain records of any temporary repairs made to prevent further damage.
